Mindfulness is about being in touch with the present moment. Our minds work constantly, processing thoughts, sounds, visual cues, feelings. We can either lose track of an experience during the process, or get caught up in a cycle of to-dos and worries. We find ourselves trying to talk with someone while watching television. How can either experience be successful?
Begin practicing mindfulness by giving your full attention to someone or something. Start with yourself first. Merely take the time to focus fully on your breathing. Feel your breath as it comes in through your nose and fills your lungs.
A thought presents itself about the need to start a grocery list. Acknowledge the thought, let it go, and continue to focus on your breath.
Continued practice can reduce anxiety and stress, and allow your mind to become a garden where comfort and calmness grows. Be still within yourself.
